The workshop will cover how to do quick gesture drawing – usually done in 5 minute poses to capture proportion and movement, progressing into longer poses concentrating on value, form and anatomy. Several demos will be done each day. Work will be done in charcoal and is open to all levels of study. |

Honesty and integrity, combined with his driving work ethic and impeccable technique, have brought Dan a degree of success that artists twice his age would envy. Born in 1965, Gerhartz grew up in rural Wisconsin, an area he continues to call home. The unspoiled beauty of the nearby Kettle Moraine State Forest was his playground as a child and provides inspiration for many of his paintings today.
Dan
Gerhartz' brilliant use of light and color has earned him numerous
awards in his young career. His work has been featured in
invitational exhibitions, and he has taught workshops at the
Scottsdale Artists' School and the Fechin Institute in Taos. "I
always try to paint from the heart," he says. "Every day I thank God
for the opportunity to do this." |

This and more will be reinforced by short demonstrations and examples. A “paint-along” will comprise much of the first day with the second day devoted to students working on their own with side by side instruction. Don Andrews Watercolor Workshop Painting Figures in the Landscape
Friday, Saturday & Sunday, May 4, 5 & 6, 2012 9:00 – 4:00 pm $350.00 |
|
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Many landscape paintings benefit from the vitality that figures provide; yet so often we shy away from painting them. We tell ourselves that we’re not good enough or don’t know enough. It seems that we all make the same mistakes when attempting to paint figures in our landscape paintings and once you know what you’re doing wrong and how to go about it, you’ll be surprised how quickly you will become adept at introducing lively, believable figures in your landscapes. Don’s class is geared to artists at all levels. We’ll explore a variety of ways to use the human form as an accent, point of interest or dominant character in any landscape painting. |
