Barb Benstein

Just Trees

Friday & Saturday

 March 17 & 18, 2023

9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Barb will help you understand the anatomy of different trees and their structures to help you suggest and loosen up your painting, rather than obsessing over the detail. Artists have a tendency to paint every branch and twig instead of painting the essence of the tree. In this workshop, through demos and several exercises, you will learn to mass in foliage and suggest seasonal color, including flowering spring trees, fall color, and bare winter branches. Create simple structure using 2-3 values. Explore color temperature, light, and shadows and sharpen your editing and design skills. You will be using photo references.

Barb Bensteinís love of art started at an early age. Mostly self-taught, she specializes in detailed pastel paintings of people and pets, as well as homes and landscapes. After working as a graphic artist for 10 years, Barb began painting full-time in 1993. Painting with pastels has always been her favorite medium. She loves the vibrancy of the colors and the richness of the texture when applied to sand paper. Barb has won many awards. Her commissioned paintings hang in Germany, Japan and Canada as well as throughout the United States.
